Domestic Violence Against Women
A report by Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) indicates that more disability, illness, and deaths are caused by intimate partner violence amongst women between 25 years and 44 years than any other risk factor (Easteal, Young, & Carline, 2018). Further reports by the World Health Organization indicates that this menace is not just experienced in Australia but all over the world; 35% of women, especially the middle-aged women in early 20 to 40 years, have at least experienced physical or sexual violence committed against them by an intimate partner (Yilmaz, 2018). Such acts of cowardice are a clear indication that demonstrates the severity and prevalence of violence against women.
Characteristics that Make Women a Distinct Group in Family Violence
Generally, no kind of violence is right irrespective of gender. However, women are more exposed to different types of family violence based on some factors; First, the physique of women are biologically inferior compared to their male counterparts (Brainerd, 2017). They thus can be more easily forced into undesirable forceful acts like rape and violence in case they resist, compared to their male counterparts who are more muscular. Furthermore, biologically women get pregnant and thus are generally not able to do muscular activities. Typically, it is at this stage that they get subjected to other forms of violence without defending themselves.
Additionally, living in a society filled with male chauvinist, women are patronized and expected to be subjective to men. If they resist most of the time, they are turned to victims of physical and emotional abuse. Nevertheless, reports indicate that in times of hunger, war and diseases outbreaks, women are the most affected. I believe there are only two types of people, those who protect women and cowards; we choose one.
