Answer:
Rehabilitation facilities- Solutions Recovery Center
The Solutions Recovery is located in Las Vegas city in the United States of America (USA). The facility offers comfort homes that provide a warm and conducive environment for healing. It serves the larger population of people suffering from addiction of using various drugs such as alcohol (Dawson et al., 2006) in Las Vegas and throughout the USA through the providence of intensive outpatient treatment. Their mission is to provide a holistic approach and a reliable treatment plan to patients struggling with alcohol and any other drug addiction. Its goal is to adequately meet the needs of their clients by providing recovery programs offered by highly trained and experienced practitioners. Their multidisciplinary treatment team aims at providing an intensive, customized as well as clinically managed services to the patients. Usually, the clients undergo a thirty-hour week treatment plan involving therapeutic activities such as individual and group counseling, holistic services, and also interpersonal skills (Solutions Recovery, 2017) aimed at developing the clients in all aspects of their life.
Through the interview with the Co-occurring Program Coordinator, Renee Stewart, it was clear that ethics play a considerable role in the providence of treatment in rehabilitation centers. Her education background in Alcohol and Drug studies and the experience she has acquired over the years through her profession on substance abuse treatment makes her perfect for such a role (Solutions Recovery, 2017). Also, she has been an overseer of program development in alcohol and drug treatment programs over the Southern California area. She is expected to develop appropriate treatment programs that will cater for all their patients’ needs. She explained the importance of personal moral values, education, and organizational membership in the practice of proper ethics during their work. For instance, confidentiality, boundaries, informed consent, duty to care, and follow-up are vital in offering adequate treatment for people suffering from drug addiction (American Nurses Association, 2001).
Ethics are the legal guidelines that guide the professional behavior. The most significant ethical challenge experienced by the Solutions Recovery is the issue of autonomy. Every individual has a degree of intrinsic worth and, therefore, need to be respected and offered maximum confidentiality. According to the NASW Code of Ethics (1996) and State Licensing Laws, they require confidentiality and respect to be provided to the patients (Ulrich et al., 2017). In ensuring patients express their autonomy without any constraints, health professionals are encouraged to provide the clients with opportunities for self-determination and independence. In instances where the patients cannot express their autonomy, close family members can be allowed to decide for them. The ethical dilemma, however, arises between balancing autonomy, treatment, safety, and well-being. Internal organization factors such as the need for creation of collective values such as universality, solidarity, and mutuality led to the creation of ethical frameworks aimed at bringing the autonomy dilemma at rest. Various external regulatory policies such as the State Licensing Authority (ALA) outlines several rules regarding the patient autonomy and the physician obligation. External forces as well such as people’s culture, government policies, family, and friends played a huge role in ensuring that the patient’s autonomy is respected.
Theories such as the theory of informed consent and the theory of patient autonomy explain the importance of giving the patients proper ground for making the right decisions (Hammami et al., 2014). In conclusion, it is essential to understand the issue of autonomy and informed consent. Also, it is crucial for all the professional workers within an organization to understand all the legal and ethical rights concerning their patients.
